Cleveland Actos Lawyers

What Is Actos?

Manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Actos is a medication often used to treat diabetes mellitus Type 2. Its chemical name is pioglitazone, and it belongs to a group of drugs called thiazolidinediones (TZDs). This class of drug works to lower the level of glucose in a person's blood.

Although Actos is a best-seller and widely prescribed, it has also been linked to a number of serious side effects, including the potential for an increased risk of bladder cancer.

If you or someone you love was diagnosed with a bladder tumor after using Actos for at least a year, talk to the Cleveland Actos attorneys at Anderson Law Offices in Cleveland, Ohio. We have obtained millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for victims of dangerous drugs nationwide.

Common Side Effects of Actos

Patients who use Actos have reported a number of general side effects as well as some potentially severe ones. These can include:

  • Muscle aches
  • Sinus pain
  • Weight gain
  • Headaches
  • Sore throats
  • Swelling
  • Bone fractures
  • Congestive heart failure

The association between the use of Actos and bladder cancer risks, however, is one that has the most people concerned. In France and several other countries, this drug was taken off the market because of its risks. An announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2010 also stated that using Actos for more than a year may increase the risk of bladder cancer.
